Product Review
I could not determine if this block or even the Henckels 22 slot would hold my 2 lengthy 11" Victorinox bread knives, 2 Wusthoff Santokus, and a pair of small Chicago Utensils Santokus along with a couple other knives. I purchased both of them and in comparison them alongside. The rear corner from the Henckels is "blocked" therefore it sits 1" nearer to the rear wall about the counter than this block. However, I discovered the Shun bamboo wood block more visually appealing along with a better finish compared to Henckels block. Also, the Large difference is incorporated in the width from the knife slots. This block consistently for nearly all slots was wider by 1/8" to at least oneOr4" compared to Henckels. For me personally, this small rise in width made the main difference to get my knives within the block or otherwise. For those who have serious knives, then many of them are most likely wide, and want this block. In case your knives are narrow then your Henckels block works fine. Both blocks were identical heighth. The steak knives are saved inside a horizontal orientation within the Henckels block in comparison with this particular block. The big cleaver slot is towards the foot of the face area with that one, and near the top of the block using the henckels block. As an additional benefit, some slots over the bottom about the Shun block are slightly wider compared to Henckels block and for that reason can accomodate a knife just a little bigger than the usual pairing or steak knife. The Henckels block has got the same size slots across the bottom as used towards the bottom section for steak knives. The outlet for kitchen shears may be the identical width both in blocks, however, the heighth from the opening is less within this block as in comparison using the Henckels block and fits my cheap shears from Walmart much better than the Henckels block did although both labored fine. So far as packaging can be involved, the Shun block is packed much better than the Henckels block. Both blocks have identical rubber ft at the base (screwed in to the block). I suppose both come in China, (the Henckels is without a doubt). The Shun block is much more costly here on Amazon . com but labored better for my knife collection. (more...)
